Brief Version:
(short Tony Version)
Wendy's water broke around 9pm on Sunday August 9th. We went to Puget Sound Birth Center at 12:30 am. Wendy was at 3cm at this point and the contractions were definitely the real deal. So we started using the various relaxation techniques we work on in labor class. We had good system for working though contractions. Wendy found that standing while hanging on me was the most comfortable. Early Monday morning a blood tests showed that her cretocin level was a bit high. This can be a sign of high blood pressure which can be a risk. Also around that time her contractions started to let up a little bit and space out. We thought that this might be because the baby was stuck or not lined right. We tried a hand full of positions that can help the baby get in a good position. We walked the stairs outside for a while and even for a longer walk through the neighborhood. None of it seemed to get the contractions going. So at about 11 am we went to U.W hospital just to be safe and to get a little bit of petocin to get labor going stronger. At that point she was still at 3cm. U.W did a really great job at bring up the patocin really slowly so she was able to start off were she left of as far as the intensity of the contractions. They ran more blood tests and everything was back to normal and looked good. So she labor all the way until 12 am Monday night. At that point they check to see if she had dilated more. The good news was the cervix was fully thinned now but still only 4cm dilated. Wendy did such a great job andhad been working so so hard but was just too tired. So we decided to do the epidural (for pain) so she could try to sleep and so they could ramp up the petocin to get the contractions going even stronger. She did get a hour or so of sleep. Three and a half hour later with the epi and strong contractions she was still at 4cm. In addition to that her uterus was starting to get tired and the baby was showing some signs of stress. So at 4am we went in for a cesarean. Buy 4:23 little Sage was out. The c-section went well over all but all the drugs took their toll on Wendy. Despite feeling really rough Wendy and little sage were able to spend about 30min skin to skin. Sage seemed pretty happy to be with her mom and even had a little snack.
We have no regret of how little Sage was born. We are really happy that we were able to pursue a natural birth but realize that thing don’t always go exactly as planned. We did get the two most important things though, a healthy mom and healthy baby. God is so good.
Wendy will have a longer recovery with the c-section but has already shown great progress. She is truly amazing. I will always remember how strong she was though this entire experience. Going though this together has brought us even closer than I could have imagined. Thanks for all your prayers.
Time with Mom.
Time with Dad.
