Getting out and about...
As summer started to slip away we had a really nice picnic at the discovery park beach.
As you can see it was a wild time. Sage did a good bit of sleeping.

Sage is a month old today . . .

While Tony is on the phone i'm reminded that we haven't updated the blog in awhile.

Here's the latest:
Sage is now over 10 lbs (which is a relief considering how much she eats).
She's met 2 of her great-grandmas - 2 more to go.
She still has fabulous red hair.
She's tried out a bottle.
She's still the cutest baby.

Our days feel pretty full and if you were to ask what we were doing, it's the usual like running to the store, going for a walk, etc. It's just that now it takes a bit longer to get out the door.

The one thing we are enjoying is getting to carry her in the Ergo and in the Moby (not at the same time). Hands-free baby carrying is the best.

Sage is gearing up to go for a run with me in a little over a week (8 days to be exact).

Tomorrow is Saturday which means donuts at Mighty O. Woo Hoo!

2 WEEKS!

Little Sage has reached (and passed) the two week mark. She had her first baby check-up last week and has had more poopy diapers than we can count.

Tony is back to work this week so we are bonding with the baby carrier so I can do things like type this update while holding a sleeping baby.

We've been blessed with fantastic meals and visits from friends and family. We've also had a chance to take a few outings to introduce Sage to the world outside the house: Target, the dog park, Whole Foods, and Roxy's deli down in Fremont.

The healing process is going along - not as fast as I would like, but I suppose it is also as good a time as any to learn a bit of patience.

Last thing: Sage continues to get cuter by the second.

Brief Version:
(short Tony Version)

Wendy's water broke around 9pm on Sunday August 9th. We went to Puget Sound Birth Center at 12:30 am. Wendy was at 3cm at this point and the contractions were definitely the real deal. So we started using the various relaxation techniques we work on in labor class. We had good system for working though contractions. Wendy found that standing while hanging on me was the most comfortable. Early Monday morning a blood tests showed that her cretocin level was a bit high. This can be a sign of high blood pressure which can be a risk. Also around that time her contractions started to let up a little bit and space out. We thought that this might be because the baby was stuck or not lined right. We tried a hand full of positions that can help the baby get in a good position. We walked the stairs outside for a while and even for a longer walk through the neighborhood. None of it seemed to get the contractions going. So at about 11 am we went to U.W hospital just to be safe and to get a little bit of petocin to get labor going stronger. At that point she was still at 3cm. U.W did a really great job at bring up the patocin really slowly so she was able to start off were she left of as far as the intensity of the contractions. They ran more blood tests and everything was back to normal and looked good. So she labor all the way until 12 am Monday night. At that point they check to see if she had dilated more. The good news was the cervix was fully thinned now but still only 4cm dilated. Wendy did such a great job andhad been working so so hard but was just too tired. So we decided to do the epidural (for pain) so she could try to sleep and so they could ramp up the petocin to get the contractions going even stronger. She did get a hour or so of sleep. Three and a half hour later with the epi and strong contractions she was still at 4cm. In addition to that her uterus was starting to get tired and the baby was showing some signs of stress. So at 4am we went in for a cesarean. Buy 4:23 little Sage was out. The c-section went well over all but all the drugs took their toll on Wendy. Despite feeling really rough Wendy and little sage were able to spend about 30min skin to skin. Sage seemed pretty happy to be with her mom and even had a little snack.

We have no regret of how little Sage was born. We are really happy that we were able to pursue a natural birth but realize that thing don’t always go exactly as planned. We did get the two most important things though, a healthy mom and healthy baby. God is so good.

Wendy will have a longer recovery with the c-section but has already shown great progress. She is truly amazing. I will always remember how strong she was though this entire experience. Going though this together has brought us even closer than I could have imagined. Thanks for all your prayers.

102 degrees + NO A.C + 38.5 weeks pregnant = @$#$%@

Our friend the contraction

Since our first night of contractions they have been hard to take serious even if they are 4 minutes apart and one minute long. At this point there have been serveral sleepless nights of contractions. The longest lasting 12 hrs. As of this week thought they seem to be showing up more regularly. Also lets not forget that its the hottest day on record in Seattle. Anytime this little one wants to show up it welcome to. The sooner the better. So now we wait ....

Almost?

As we get closer to the due date our list of todo's is slowly going down. There is still plenty to do. So i was vary surprised when I found myself taking Wendy to the hospital at 1:30am on the 30th. That evening around 10pm she started to feel cramps that were feeling more like contractions. After a soak in the tub the cramp were not really going away. Hoping that they would go away we headed back to bed. 45min later they were clearly contractions and were about 5 mins apart. We have learned that random contractions without pattern are normal and not labor. These were not too random at all. After speaking with our doctor we got up to head to the Hospital to have it checked out. Asgard and Maggy (the dogs) new something was up. We didn't want to stick them in the back yard because they might bark so in the car they went. Right up until we went into the parking garage Asgard thought we were heading to the dog park for a late night game of fetch. The hole time I figured that we would be there very long. After all we have 5 weeks until the due date right? The nice thing is that we got to see the route to the labor a deliver wing. After getting checked in quick Wendy got changed into the complimentary well vented rob and was hooked up the the monitoring machine. Right away I could see the contractions on the paper print out. They were now 3.5 minutes apart. Out doctor/ Midwife Tracy showed too. It was great to have her there. After seeing the contractions the general consensus was that the baby might be showing up much sooner. I started to think putting the dogs in the car was not such a good idea. Maybe a car seat would have been better. If the contractions progressed and she started dilating they would be stopping the labor. at 34.5 weeks er are close enough to being full term at 35 weeks. The UW doctor checked to see if Wendy was dilating. Fortunately she wasent. The contractions continued though. We waited for another hour and a half for tests to come back and to check to see if Wendy was dilating. Thankfully the tests came back clean and another check showed no dilation. So with the contractions still happening we were told we could head home.
Once we got home and got to sleep the contractions faded away. I would have been great to meet our baby but it was a big relief to have a bit more time to get ready. Thankfully the baby and mom are healthy. In the end the baby is gona come when its ready and we are not going to ready.
